All the News Fit to Drink: Lexington’s August 2014 Beer Calendar

Those of you who are over-21 can turn your August into Beergust with our compilation of this month’s beer-centered events.

Weekly Events:

If you need your growler refilled, Blue Stallion Brewing offers specials every Sunday and Monday on most of their beers.

Every Monday, show up at West Sixth for the West Sixth Pedals and Pints Club. The club meets at the brewery at 6 pm and you can expect to return by 7:30 pm for giveaways, kettle corn, beer, and more.

Tuesdays are Tap Night at  Drake’s. It starts at 6 pm and offers you the chance to take two special glasses home with the purchase of a 60oz table tap.

west sixth running clubWest Sixth Running Club also meets Tuesdays at  6:30 pm. You can refresh yourself with locally crafted beer after the run.

Every Tuesday, Al’s Bar (corner of 6th and Limestone) hosts an Open Mic Night, featuring 2-for-1 PBR, High Life, and Wells starting at 9 pm until midnight.

On Wednesdays, West Sixth hosts Experimental Beer afternoons, starting at 3 pm. Expect a different batch of a completely new beer to be unveiled each week.

Wednesdays is Pazzo’s for Pint Night.  The specialty beers offered this month, starting each Wednesday at 6:30 pm, will be Unibroue Ephemere on August 6, Hoegaarden on August 13, Victory Prima Pils on August 20, and Evil Twin on August 27.

Every Thursday, check out Mellow Mushroom for Steal the Pint at 6 pm for your chance to go home with pint glasses from select breweries.

On Thursdays, West Sixth also offers Firkin Thursdays. Starting at 3 pm, the brewery will be releasing a one-of-a-kind cask ale in the barroom, and will serve it until it runs out.

Also on Thursdays, Lexington Beerworks offers  Flight Nights at 5 pm, featuring select beers from across the country.

Every Sunday, there is Beer School at the Beer Trappe starting at 4 pm.

On Wednesday, August 6, check out Lexington Beerworks for a special event that pits beer against wine. The Goose vs. The Grape, which will run every half hour from 5-7 pm will aim to solve the age-old question of which alcoholic beverage pairs better with cheeses and chocolates. The cost is $15 (call ahead for reservations).

Friday, August 8 kicks off Shaker Village’s Well Crafted Festival featuring local brews and bands. The inaugural festival will celebrate Kentucky’s music and craft beer culture at the historic Shaker Village venue.

Check out Pazzo’s on August 8 for the Sierra Nevada Beer Camp Takeover. Festivities will start at 6 pm and all twelve Sierra Nevada beers will be available on tap, 4 at a time changing every half hour.

Also on August 8, check out Cheapside Park for Kentucky Cork and Tap. This premier wine and beer festival will run 5-9 pm. and will feature beers from local breweries Country Boy, West Sixth, Blue Stallion, and Kentucky Ale.

Saturday, August 9, Lexington’s Gastro Gnomes food truck will return to Rooster Brew in Paris, KY from 5 to 9 pm.

Sunday, August 10, Lexington Beerworks is hosting Intro to Home Brewing. Each session is $15/person and runs 2-4 pm. You’ll learn about equipment options, ingredients, and the procedures involved. Beers are $1 off throughout the class. Call to sign up.

On Monday, August 11, the Hanley’s BBQ food truck is setting up at Lexington’s Blue Stallion Brewing beginning at 5 pm.

Thursday, August 14, Blue Stallion Brewing is featuring the Fork in the Road Mobile Galley beginning at 5 pm. The brewery will also be hosting Live Team Trivia starting at 8 pm and features prize for the top three contestants.

Rooster Brew in Paris, Ky

The CrazyBoutCajun food truck will be at Rooster Brew in Paris, KY on Friday, August 15 serving authentic Cajun/Creole cuisine from 5 to 9 pm.

On Sunday, August 17, Lexington Beerworks will host Advanced Brewing Techniques. Classes are free and run 2-4 pm. This laid back class will cover tips and techniques used by experienced brewers. Topic include kegging, dry hopping, and yeast starters. All beers will be $1 off.

On Thursday, August 21, Country Boy will host the 12x12x12 Founders Event at 4 pm. Twelve Founders taps, twelves small plates by the Gastrognomes, and 12 Country Boy taps will be featured.

Also on Thursday August 21, Smithtown Seafood is hosting an end-of-summer seafood feast for their monthly Tanks to Table Beer Dinner beginning at 7 pm. The End of Summer Seafood BBQ Menu will feature a mixed seafood grill with sauce bar, fresh corn salad, charred potato salad with FoodChain mustard greens, heirloom tomato salad, fresh-baked bread with old bay butter, and a mixed berry cobbler.

Friday, August 22, Lexington’s Rolling Oven food truck is serving up Neapolitan-inspired pizza and sandwiches at Rooster Brew in Paris, KY from 5 to 9 pm.

Saturday, August 23, there will be an All-Grain Brown Class at Lexington Beerworks. This free class will run 2-4 pm. and will teach you how to sparge, mash, and more. Call Beerworks to reserve a spot now.

On Sunday, August 24, Louisville’s gourmet burger truck Grind is at Lexington’s Blue Stallion Brewing from 5 pm.

Also happening Sunday, August 24, Country Boy’s Country Boy Golf Scramble is at 1 pm. The scramble is in support for Habitat for Humanity, but teams are limited and tickets are almost out, so you’ll need to register ASAP. Tickets are $280/team, or $70/person and include lunch, dinner, beverage and a prize package.

On Monday, August 25, the Ellos food truck will be at Lexington’s Blue Stallion Brewing serving tacos, tamales, and quesadillas from 5 pm.

Thursday, August 28, Broken Arrow BBQ is setting up at Rooster Brew in Paris, KY from 5 to 9 pm.

Also on Thursday, August 28, the Fork in the Road Mobile Galley is at Lexington’s Blue Stallion Brewing from 5 pm. The brewery will also be hosting Live Team Trivia starting at 8 pm and features prize for the top three contestants.

Last, but certainly not least, on Friday, August 29, the Lexington Fest of Ales will happen downtown. Show up at Cheapside Pavilion at 5:30-8:30 pm for the festival which will include Lexington breweries, plus Goose Island, Angry Orchard, and Sam Adams, among many, many others. There will also be live music and food available through downtown vendors. Tickets are $30 and are available in advance at Liquor Barn, Pazzo’s, and The Beer Trappe.
