Easter Oratorio

There will be two Lexington performances of the Thy Will Be Done Easter Oratorio, produced by Dr. Everett McCorvey and starring Metropolitan Opera tenor Greg Turay as Jesus. One performance is at Cathedral of Christ The King (on Colony) on March 25 at 7:30 pm. Another is at Tates Creek Presbyterian (on Rapid Run Drive) on March 29 at 4 pm.

The Thy Will Be Done Easter Oratorio was composed by Lexington’s Angela Rice. The work received national attention when it was selected to be part of the Music Reading Session at the 2013 Montreat Presbyterian Music Conference.

Since the debut during the 2012 season, Rice has expanded the work from a cantata of 16 musical numbers to an oratorio of 30 pieces about Jesus’ life, ministry, crucifixion, resurrection and impact.

“I’ve tried to use the music to depict the emotions of the characters in the specific biblical contexts,” said Rice. “I hope that as you listen you can hear the love, surrender, obedience, despair, humility and awe – emotions that the characters experienced.”

Passion Play

The Lexington Passion Play is at Gardenside Baptist Church from March 20 – 22 and March 27 – 29. The play is a refreshed production of the passion of Jesus featuring a new script and updated music.
