Ironcology Triathlon, Commonwealth Stadium

June 17, 2016 - June 18, 2016

The Ironcology Survive the Night Triathlon for the Cure, hosted by the Markey Cancer Center, starts off June 17.

“Riding a Bike Could Help Save a Life
For two days in June, the Ironcology Survive the Night Triathlon and the Roll for the Cure will take place to benefit cancer research and programs at the UK Markey Cancer Center and the pediatric oncology clinic at Kentucky Children’s Hospital (KCH).

The triathlon, scheduled for June 17, gives teams of 10 a chance to swim, bike and run 140.7 miles over the course of a night. The event was created in May 2014 by Jonathan Feddock, MD, a radiation oncologist at Markey, as way to combine a love of long distance triathlons with a passion for providing the best possible cancer care to patients. All proceeds from the event benefit cancer programs at Markey and KCH. This event starts at 7:30 PM on and goes overnight until about 7:00 AM on June 18.

On June 18, bicyclists can participate in Roll for the Cure, a less grueling, but equally as fun event. Open to experienced riders, children and families, this event allows participants to choose between 100, 50, 32, 10, and five-mile routes that start at Commonwealth Stadium and travel through various parts of UK’s campus, Woodford County and Frankfort. Rest stops include the Buffalo Trace and Woodford Reserve distilleries. Other family-friendly activities include a petting zoo, bounce houses, music and face painting. Like the triathlon the day before, all proceeds from Roll for the Cure will benefit cancer programs at KCH and Markey. This event starts at 8:00 AM on and goes overnight until about 5:00 PM.”
