One lane of Main was closed in downtown Lexington this weekend while crews installed artist DeWitt Godfrey’s “Concordia,” Lexington’s newest public art project, atop the Downtown Arts Center.
The cost of the project, in development for the past two years, is $70,000. The NEA has awarded $25,000 and LexArts is matching individual contributions dollar for dollar at the fundraising site, Power 2 Give, up to $10,000. (Like a Kickstarter project, the site lists donor benefits, including commemorative posters, private receptions, and Limited Edition prints by Cricket Press).
Some Lexington citizens voted to choose Godfrey and this project from 14 finalists in a two-year process that resulted in a commission by LexArts and Leadership Lexington.
The installation is expected to be complete in time for downtown Lexington’s July 4 festival.
