What’s open, what’s closed on New Year’s Eve 2014 and New Year’s Day 2015 in Lexington, Kentucky?

Groceries and Shopping

Fresh Market in Lansdowne will be open New Year’s Eve 8 am to 8 pm and on New Year’s Day 11 am to 7 pm.

Lexington Kroger on Richmond Road will close at 9 pm on New Year’s Eve and will re-open at 6 am on New Year’s Day. Kroger on Chinoe will be open until 9 pm on New Year’s Eve and will re-open on New Year’s Day at 7 am. Kroger on Romany will close at 9 pm on New Year’s Eve and re-open at 8 am on New Year’s Day.

Lexington’s 24/7 Meijer stores will remain open regular hours on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Trader Joe’s will be open until 7 pm on New Year’s Eve, but closed on New Year’s Day.

The 24/7 WalMarts in Lexington (including WalMart in Hamburg) will be open regular hours New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. (Individual stores inside the WalMarts may have different hours.)

Whole Foods will be open 8 am to 8 pm on New Year’s Eve, and 10am  to 8pm on New Year’s Day.

Wine + Market will be open until 8 on New Year’s Eve, but closed on New Year’s Day.

Buses are operating on a Sunday schedule on New Year’s Day.

Libraries

All Lexington Public Library locations will be closed after 5 pm on New Year’s Eve (December 31, 2014) and will be closed all day on January 1, 2015 for New Year’s Day.

New Year’s TRASH PICKUP IN LEXINGTON 

Lexington’s Division of Waste Management will adjust its collection schedule for the upcoming New Year’s holiday. Residents who normally receive Thursday pick-up from the division will be serviced on Wednesday, Dec. 31, the Wednesday before the holiday. No collections will be made on New Year’s Day. Residents with Friday pick-up will be serviced as usual.

Residents who normally receive Thursday pick up should place their Herbies, Rosies and Lennies out on Tuesday night, Dec. 30, to ensure collection on the Wednesday make-up day.

Businesses with dumpsters (landfill-bound and recycling) that normally receive Thursday pick-up from the division will have their units serviced on Wednesday, Dec. 31. Friday pick-ups will be made as usual.

Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government offices will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 1, along with the Lexington Recycling Center, Electronics Recycling Center and Haley Pike Waste Management facility.

POST OFFICES

Post Offices nationwide will be open on New Year’s Eve, Wednesday, Dec. 31. Many Lexington Post Offices will shorten retail lobby hours and close early  on these holiday eves. Regular mail delivery forDec. 31 will be unaffected by the change. Revised hours will be posted at each Post Office. If you are a business customer, please check with your Bulk Mail Entry Unit for specific information regarding holiday hours of operation. Post Offices will be closed Thursday, Jan. 1. All Post Offices will be open and regular mail delivery will resume on  Friday, Jan. 2, 2015. Be sure to deposit your mail into all blue collection boxes by noon on Dec. 31, regardless of the final collection times posted. This means if the final collection time is already before noon (12 p.m.), there will be no change. However, if the final collection time is normally after noon (12 p.m.), mail may be collected early.

TREECYCLE THIS: How to Recycle Your Christmas Tree in Lexington? 

The division of waste management began picking up discarded live Christmas trees for those who receive city collection service on Dec. 26. Trees will be picked up on your normal collection day and taken to the city’s composting facility where it will be converted into mulch. All decorations and wrappings must be removed from the tree. Pickup will continue through January 9, 2015.

Fayette County residents can recycle holiday lights and other electronics such as computers, monitors and televisions at the city’s Electronic Recycling Center at 1306 Versailles Road.
