University of Kentucky pays tribute to the fallen of 9/11

The University of Kentucky Army ROTC and Air Force ROTC programs honored those who died in the tragic terrorist attacks on this day 19 years ago.

A vigil will take place on Friday, September 11 from 8:30 am until 5:30 pm

Continuing tradition, UK ROTC cadets will dress in uniform and place small flags in memory of each of the nearly 3,000 victims of 9/11 on the front lawn of UK’s Main Building facing South Limestone, according to Lt. Col. Kyle Yates, professor of military science at UK.

Cadets will read the name of each victim throughout the day starting at 8:46 am, when the first attack occurred. A cadet will also continually march in front of a large flag carrying a replica rifle until all names have been read.

Students and community members are welcome to observe and take photos, but organizers ask that observers do not disturb the cadets reading the names or performing guard duty.
