Dogs: Bluegrass Classic Stockdog Trial, Masterson Station

The Bluegrass Classic Stockdog Trial is at Masterson Station May 18-22.

“The famous Bluegrass Classic Stockdog Trial will once again be held at Lexington’s Masterson Station Park from dawn–dusk, marking 54 years of border collie trials in the Bluegrass. This competition, nearly identical to the one in the popular movie “Babe,” is one of the largest, longest-running and most prestigious trials in the country, and always draws top handlers from across the United States. Bleacher seating and concessions are available or patrons may bring a lawn chair or blanket and pack a picnic lunch. Additionally, dogs are welcome as long as they are well-behaved and leashed at all times. Parking and admission to the Bluegrass Classic is free.

In conjunction to the Bluegrass Classic with be the 7th annual Kentucky Sheep and Fiber Festival, a natural fiber and local food event. Held at the Lexington Lion’s Club Bluegrass Fairgrounds, patrons will have the opportunity to view some of the nation’s finest fiber artists and purchase handspun yarn and products. There will be a series of classes, workshops and demonstrations including spinning, knitting, weaving, felting and more. This event will also showcase other aspects of the sheep and Kentucky agriculture community including sheep-shearing and livestock exhibits, antique tractor exhibits, a cooking competition featuring Sullivan University culinary students, Celtic singing and dancing, and 80 natural fiber exhibitors and vendors from Kentucky and 15 other states.”
